THE NOMAD - QUINESSENCE

Longtime leading producer of New Zealand electronica Daimon Schwalger presents Quinessence, the fifth and latest album under The Nomad moniker. It’s a very textural foray into dub, electronica and downbeat, which generally comes across as typically New Zealand sounding in its organic evocations of some Aotearoan landscape. There’s a successful balance of fun, vocal based tunes with more ambient, Warp records recalling electronica. And, as is usual with Schwalger, production is immaculate and very sophisticated throughout - perhaps most of all out of any releases of his to date. With Quinessence, The Nomad secures his position near the top of the now busy kiwi electronica arena. In such a common and often derivative style of New Zealand music, many artists come off as uninspired and stale. The Nomad is good at what he does – stylish, clever, forward thinking, cross-genre electronica that is both sonically interesting and emotionally seductive.
